The European School of Information Theory (ESIT)Ìýis an annual educational event, organized by the Â鶹´«Ã½AV Information Theory Society, for graduate students from institutes throughout Europe and beyond. The objective of the school is to provide the students with the opportunity (i) to learn from distinguished lecturers by attending long-format (3 hour) tutorials, (ii) to present their own work to obtain feedback and to start up collaborations, (iii) to hear about applications of information theory in industry, and (iv) to participate in a stimulating and inviting forum of scientists.

The programÌýof this year spanned the foundations and new application areas of information theory. In particular, network information theory, quantum information theory, coding theory, security, genomics, machine learning and big data are among the topics discussed at ESIT 2015.ÌýÌýwere given by:

Furthermore, the following representatives from successful start-ups rooted in information theory gaveÌý:

  • Geert-Jan SchrijenÌý(Intrinsic-ID)

The program also included sessions where participating students presented a poster on his/her research.

The venueÌýfor the school was hotelÌý, located at the beach front and close to Amsterdam and Schiphol airport.

The organizing committeeÌýconsisted of Jasper Goseling (University of Twente, chair), Jos Weber (Delft University of Technology), and Tanya Ignatenko and Frans Willems (Eindhoven University of Technology). Advisors are Vitaly Skachek and Gerhard Kramer.

Registration. The registration fee included accommodation, social program, and meals.The registration deadline was on March 13, 2015.ÌýÌýThe registration is closed now.

GrantsÌýwere available for covering the registration fees for students that otherwise would have not been able to attend. In exceptional cases students applied for a travel grant. Only students that registered beforeÌýJanuary 15, 2015, were eligible for grants.

Non-student participation:ÌýThe school is aimed at PhD students, however, limited number of places was made available for senior researches interested to attend one or more tutorial lectures.Ìý
