Call for participation

2017 European School of Information Theory
May 8-11, 2017, Madrid, Spain

The European School of Information Theory (ESIT) Ìýis an annual educational event, organized by the Â鶹´«Ã½AV Information Theory Society, for graduate students from institutes throughout Europe and beyond. In this school, the students have the opportunity to learn from distinguished lecturers by attending long-format tutorials, to present their own work to obtain feedback and to start up collaborations, and to participate in a stimulating and inviting forum of scientists.ÌýTo promote interaction and collaboration, all students are required to present their work in a poster presentation. Students who have just started their doctoral studies and have not yet obtained publishable results may also present the topic chosen for their thesis.

Topics of the ESIT 2017 include Shannon Theory, coding theory, source coding, sequential analysis and applied probability, among others. The scheduled tutorial lectures are:

Spatially coupled LDPC codes: from theory to practice

Channel reliability: from ordinary to zero-error capacity

Fundamental limits in asynchronous communication

Venue

This year's school will take place inÌý Madrid, Spain,Ìý a city offering historical sites, sprawling museumsÌýand traditional restaurants where tourists and locals meet alike.Ìý The schoolÌývenueÌýis the Marqués de Villafranca Palace, headquarters of the Spanish Royal Academy of Engineering, located in the historical center of Madrid. It is easily accessible by public transportation, and there are several accommodation and dinning options nearby.
