We are looking for excellent candidates to carry out independent research in the following areas:

  • 6G communication system
  • Aerial and satellite communications
  • Swarm exploration on Mars
  • Quantum communications

Your task will be at least one of the following

  • Fundamental, theoretical-oriented research
  • Software implementation of innovative technologies, e.g. in an 6G testbed

Potential research topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Semantic communication
  • Machine learning methods, Bayesian learning methods
  • Source and channel coding (e.g. Information Bottleneck Method)
  • Event-based sampling, Event-based communication
  • Graph-based, distributed signal processing and compressive sensing
  • Information transmission and interference management in 6G network concepts (terrestrial-orbital (3D) networks, organic networks, dynamic subnetworks)
  • mmWave (26GHz) communication and localization

Who we are:

The Department of Communication Engineering has many years of expertise in the research and development of communications systems, algorithms and signal processing methods. Through participation in programs of the German Research Foundation (DFG), cooperative projects of the European Union (EU), European Space Agency (ESA), and German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as well as industrial projects, the results of basic research find direct utilization in the development and standardization of mobile radio systems, industrial radio systems and space communication systems.

Qualifications:

  • Very good completed scientific university studies (Master/Diploma) in communications engineering/information technology, technical computer science, applied mathematics or related engineering or natural sciences
  • Profound knowledge that covers one or more of the following areas: communications engineering (baseband, resource management), signal processing and signal theory, coding and information theory, network information theory, machine learning, stochastic inference techniques
  • Strong interested in conducting independent research with your ideas and approaches as a member of one of our research teams
  • High motivation to work within trans-disciplinary research projects
  • Organizational talent and team spirit
  • Very good English skills, ideally basic German skills
  • Ideally, experience in programming and development environments (Python, MATLAB, C++)
