The Student and Outreach Subcommittee of the Information Theory Society is proud to present a student challenge titled “�鶹��ýAV ISIT 2025 Wireless Wanderlust” competition, a virtual event open to all student members. This challenge focuses on the intersection of Information Theory and Data Science, with participants tackling problems in distributed sensing, machine learning, and wireless localization.

In this year’s competition, we explore a semi-supervised indoor positioning challenge. Consider an indoor environment with multiple remote antennas, each having several antenna elements. These antennas operate over a set of transmission frequencies, capturing signals from users who carry communication devices. We refer to the relevant channel characteristics as Channel State Information (CSI). The CSI observations are transmitted from the remote antennas to a fusion center over a grants-free random access channel. By analyzing the received signals at each remote antenna, a fusion center infers the user’s position. Participants will be asked to complete a series of tasks, which consist of i) Vanilla Localization, ii) Trajectory-Aware Localization, and iii) Feature Selection and Grant-free Random Access.��

Organized by the Student and Outreach Subcommittee of the Information Theory Society, this competition offers undergraduate and graduate students worldwide a unique opportunity to apply their machine-learning skills to a challenging and relevant real-world scenario. Competitors will vie for prizes and recognition, making this event both intellectually stimulating and rewarding.
