Massimo Franceschetti ÌýÌýreceived the Laurea degreeÌý(withÌýhonors) in computer engineering from the University Federico II, Naples, Italy, in 1997, the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees inÌýelectrical engineering from the California Institute of Technology,ÌýPasadena, CA, in 1999, and 2003, respectively. ÌýHe is Professor ofÌý Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of CaliforniaÌýat San Diego (UCSD). ÌýBefore joining UCSD, he was a postdoctoralÌýÌý scholar at the University of California at Berkeley for twoÌý years. He has held visiting positions at the Vrije UniversiteitÌýAmsterdam, the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne,Ìýand the University of Trento.

His research interests are in physicalÌýand information-based foundations of communication and control of dynamicalÌýsystems. He is a co-author of the book ``Random Networks forÌýÌý Communication'' (2007) and author of ``Wave Theory ofÌýInformation'' (2018),Ìýboth published by Cambridge University Press.Ìý

Dr. Franceschetti served as Associate Editor for CommunicationÌýNetworks of the Â鶹´«Ã½AV Transactions on Information Theory (2009-2012), as Associate Editor of the Â鶹´«Ã½AV Transactions on Control ofÌýNetwork Systems (2013-2016), as Associate Editor for the Ìý Â鶹´«Ã½AV Transactions onÌý Network Science and Engineering (2014-2017), and as Guest Associate Editor of the Â鶹´«Ã½AVÌýÌý Journal on Selected Areas in Communications (2008, 2009). He also served as general chair for the North American School of Information Theory (2015).

He was awarded the C. H. WiltsÌýÌý Prize in 2003 for best doctoral thesis in electrical engineering at
ÌýCaltech; the S.A. ÌýSchelkunoff Award in 2005 for best paper in theÌýÂ鶹´«Ã½AV Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, a National ScienceÌýÌý Foundation (NSF) CAREER award in 2006, an Office of Naval ResearchÌýÌý (ONR) Young Investigator Award in 2007, the Â鶹´«Ã½AV CommunicationsÌýSociety Best Tutorial Paper Award in 2010, and the Â鶹´«Ã½AV ControlÌýÌý theory society Ruberti young researcher award in 2012. He has been elected fellow of the Â鶹´«Ã½AV in 2018, and ÌýGuggenheim Fellow for theÌýnatural sciences, engineering, in 2019.
